Central Drug Store (Dufferin)

At 1,200 square feet, Central Drugs’ Dufferin store is one of pharmacist manager/owner Russell Beales’ larger dispensaries in Nanaimo. It combines the best of both worlds: quick and comprehensive prescription-filling, plus all the amenities (from personal service to an array of health care products) normally found in large pharmacies.

Like Beales’ other stores, Dufferin is owner/operated. “This is important to customers because it means the owner is always present in the store to address issues or problems,” he says. “He’s the decision-maker who is at the direct service of customers.”

Products

Despite the dispensary focus and services revolving around prescription-filling, the Dufferin store is also a great place to visit in order to stock up on home health care items or treatment-related products like wound care supplies.

And just as counseling is standard practice with all prescription orders, customers can, if they so choose, receive friendly and informative guidance about products they may require for common maladies or the daily maintenance of health.

Services

“This is a clinical setting,” Beales says of Central Drugs at Dufferin. “We don’t sell soup and you don’t have to trudge past aisles of merchandise to reach a pharmacist.”

In short, Dufferin is all about human interaction and staff dedicated to administering health care, whether the task is testing someone for diabetes or planning a medication program for seniors. “And we love nothing better than fielding all sorts of questions,” adds Beales. “No query is too trivial, because our on-going goal is to eliminate all doubt that may be in the minds of our customers.”
